Who we are

Feminist Magic Market was founded in 2019 as a cozy community-driven vendor market in the backyard of Itinerant Literate Bookstop. Over the years, we've grown significantly, expanding our footprint in 2021 to include the space in front of the bookstore. Today, our market stretches across the streets of Chateau Avenue and Empire Avenue, proudly hosting 80-100 vendors at each event.

The bookstore, a beloved Park Circle fixture, is owned by Christen Thompson and Julia Turner. In 2023, we were excited to welcome Commonhouse Aleworks as an additional co-host, further enriching our market experience. That same year, Rae Sumlin joined the team and has since become the organizer of Feminist Magic Market Charleston. Rae is dedicated to promoting Charleston’s richly diverse community and emphasizing the impact of shopping small. Our market not only provides a platform for discovering unique and exceptional items but also fosters connections with remarkable members of the local community.

In addition to our regular events, we are proud to work alongside We Are Family during the annual Park Circle Pride celebrations, supporting and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community in Charleston.
